Childhood Health Action Team

The Childhood Health Action Team has been working together for several years to improve the health status of the children in Jackson County.  One serious problem for Jackson County children is obesity or over weight.

Did you know that this generation is the first ever that is not expected to live as long as their parents?  The Action Team on Childhood Health has gone into the schools for three years to weigh and measure every elementary school student.  By calculating the body mass index and comparing the aggregate data to State and US data, we know that Jackson County children are heavier than their counterparts in the rest of the nation and in the state.

The Action Team is made up of volunteers from almost every agency in the county as well as community volunteers. This team of concerned experts, parents, and agency representatives is working to develop a program that will help to reduce the incidence of obesity and improve the overall health status of the children.
